About Origin Lens

Origin Lens is a small, free utility with one job: show you exactly what is in your text — every invisible Unicode character, where it likely came from, and how to clean it safely.

Why we built it

In 2025, invisible characters in AI-generated text became a story: a wave of "ChatGPT watermark" reports, a market of tools promising to "remove AI watermarks," and a lot of confusion between three very different things — hidden characters, statistical watermarks, and writing style. Most tools in this space have an incentive to blur those lines, because fear sells subscriptions.

We wanted the opposite: a tool that treats you like an adult. It reports facts (this character, at this position, with this code point), explains their common origins honestly (usually word processors and web pages, not secret watermarks), and refuses to make claims it cannot back.

What we will never claim

• We will never tell you a text is or is not AI-generated. Invisible characters cannot prove that in either direction.
• We will never promise output that is "undetectable" by AI detectors. Detectors analyze writing statistics, not hidden bytes; character cleaning is hygiene, not evasion.
• We will never conflate visible typography (em dashes, curly quotes) with hidden characters. They are different evidence classes and the tool reports them separately.

How it handles your text

The inspector runs entirely in your browser. Your text is never uploaded, stored, or transmitted — there is no server-side processing and no account. You can verify this: the page works offline once loaded.
